weekend groceries
Hi gang
I’m going grocery shopping on the weekend and want to make some really healthy choices for the next week. So I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas for me.
I’m open to any kind of suggestions from maindish, sides, snacks etc.
I hear you talk about 100 cal packs but not sure what thats about. I’ll have to look for them.

I suspect my grocery trip will take a little longer than usual this time. I will be reading labels very closely. Do you know that I didn’t know calories were listed on the back of almost any food you buy? I know, where have I been?
Oh well getting on track now, better late than never.

This weekend I am going to make sure I get off my butt and get moving and make healthier food choices. The last weekend was a disaster for me and very depressing so I can’t have a repeat of that. Gotta go into this one with the right attitude and healthy and satisfying foods so that I can stick with this.z rn
I hope you are all doing well. I love being able to read everyones stories. Such a wide range of people all here for the same reason. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!
The 100 calorie packs are awesome. You’ll find them all over the store really. The biggest two areas are in chips and cookies though. Keep your eye posted for em’ and you will find em’ now that you know what you’re looking for. Good luck!

Get lots of fresh fruit and veggies…Fish and Skinless chicken is great!
The 100 calorie packs are awesome. So are the 90 calorie granola bars and the 90 calorie special K bars…
The “Light” chips are great too, better, in my oppinion, then the “baked” chips for snacks…
Whole wheat pasta is good!!!
Just take your time, and read the labels paying CLOSE attention to serving size. You may think its great, then come to find out the serving size is VERY small…
GOOD LUCK!
I try to stick with ornges, apples, carrots and for meat i preffer chicken so i just get boneless-skinless chicken breast and here is my favorite recipie:
Bake the chicken at 425 degrees for about 45 minutes ( donot use any salt or seasonings)
while the chicken is baking heres what you will be making to go along with it:
penutbutterdiping sauce for the chicken
2 tablespoons of penutbutter- add about 2 tablespoons of water and mix ( you can add splenda to sweeten)
and i like to make a cucumber dip the same way!
pel the skin off the cucumber then dice it in to little squares add water and some splenda to sweeten
I like to dip my chicken into the cucumbersauce then the penutbutter! It is very good! Let me know if you try it and what you think!!!
Just reading labels is a very good start!
If you don’t already have one, a food scale is a very good investment. You’d be surprised at how much a serving really is when you weigh it. In some cases a serving is much smaller than you thought, but in others it’s much larger! Some fooods, chips for instance, say so many ounces or so many pieces. But the size and shape of the pieces may vary so that’s not very accurate. Weighing is time consuming, but much better. And weighing out your own single serving packs and putting them in those little zipper bags is a lot cheaper than buying the 100 calorie packs.
I have been eating chicken sausage - if you can find it, they come in some good flavors - pesto, feta & spinach, etc. Then I saute onions and peppers, add some minced garlic and cut up a sausage and fry all together. Tastes so good and good for you. Also, fiber one has new bars that have tons of fiber and are really good! Crystal Light ice-tea raspberry is a staple for me. I also have the wasa rye crisps and the some light cheese spread and that is great. You can also use the wasa crisps to make an open faced sandwich - has a nice crunch but not all the calories.
thanks so much for all your great ideas
I have tried whole grain pasta and didn’t mind it at all so thanks for that reminder I’ll have to pick some up
I will watch the serving sizes I have noticed already how much that varies
If I pick up a scale is there any certain type? Or all pretty much the same?
thanks again - I now have some great ideas that I addded to my list already
One suggestion I can give as far as healthier eating is baking. When I’m at home and my kids want fries instead of sticking them in my deep fryer I put them in the oven for a bake. I think baking has a great way of trimming the calories up I bake my pork chops, chicken, and other stuff as well. As far as going grocery shopping, I get reduced milk, and butter, and fresh veggies instead of canned. Also, one of the best finds I love is the Dannon Light N’ Fit smoothies there near the eggs in most grocery stores. They are the best low calorie smoothies out there and they offer good flavors, I love having those for breakfast.
